about

(SPHC-38)
(Netherlands)

On their first LP, Nekromantiker continues to refine their fucking harsh noise punk style, mixing the song construction and style of classic noise punk heroes like Confuse and Gai with the sonic brutalities and effects-laden idealism of the Tokyo Sound System/New Smell scene (ie Exit Hippies, Filth Militia, Aostrapos, Stagnation, etc).

The entire LP feels like the finely crafted product of a band in their prime. Mixing mid-tempo jammers with short/fast/loud hardcore shockers, straight-forward drums with obtuse/experimenting harsh noise guitars, their highest-fidelity recording yet with their best 'ghouls/skeletons/mushroom people' aesthetic yet, the result is an excellent genre exercise in "noise punk" that manages to bring a new perspective and unique personality to the canon.

This is a fucking GREAT record and if it were made by fashionable Americans or young Japanese people, everybody would eat it up. Bram KILLED it on the cover art too, fan-fucking-tastic. A great visual artist. He did a really ornate Nekromantiker tag here at Barclay House that I always glance at as I pass by, and I've got a few pieces of his art adorning my bedroom walls.

Also kinda random but of every release on SPHC, this and the Muerte LP are the ones that are constantly brought up to me by people all over the world, years after its release.
